Wick Group of Artists in south Wales have risen to the SAA poppy card challenge and had much fun doing so.
“We had been invited to exhibit paintings as part of the “Remembrance” themed Flower Festival in our little village church over August Bank Holiday.
A month earlier, we gave group members 4 pieces of card on which to paint a poppy themed picture, then we stuck them all onto greeting card blanks and with envelopes and cellophane pockets they looked very professional.
All 80 cards, displayed as a delightful patchwork, were placed in a prominent place in our little exhibition. At £2.00 per card, they sold well and were a real point of interest as visitors called into see the wonderful flower displays and have tea and cake.
By selling some of our own pictures and small items, we raised £60.00 for the church building funds, but more impressively we have been able to send £150.00 to the Royal British Legion from having sold almost all the poppy cards! This thoroughly enjoyable activity has enabled us to make positive contributions to the church and RB Legion Thank you to SAA for giving us the original idea!”
